  • Is Assisted Dying lawful in Switzerland?

    • Yes. Under Swiss law, assisted dying is lawful if the person who wants assistance to die possesses decision-making capacity and has ‘control’ over his/her death and the motives of those assisting are not selfish.

  • Greta Van Messem

I am a 70 year old woman from Belgium and a member of Exit International since 29/11/2019. I want to put an end at my very unhappy life (since years and no psychiatist or medecine has ever put me in a condition that I’ve changed my mind on that matter) So, enough is enough, I am not afraid of dying, but desperate continuing this unhappy and stressful life) But, I want to die in dignity, and the only option left is the Swiss option, Pegasos, which is cooporating with Exit International. Only problem is the paperwork that is to be done. Can I get more information about it from your organisation, because I will start my VAD as soon as possible and want to do it the right way, according to the required steps to take for the Swiss law. The peacefull Pill handbook gives only general information about it on the last pages of the book. Can I get more from your organisation. Many thanks in advance

      Hello Greta,

Thank you for your email and interest in the ‘Swiss option’.

If you have not already done so we strongly recommend you do some preliminary reading about the options in the Peaceful Pill eHandbook at http://www.peacefulpill.com where a Chapter is devoted to the ‘Swiss Option’.

As far as Switzerland is concerned, Exit offers Members 2 special additional services. Both are open exclusively to Exit Members.

      1. Application Assistance Program

This program provides step by step support for a VAD application at any of the Swiss services. There charge for this service is US$1500.

More details can be found on the Exit website at: https://www.exitinternational.net/switzerland-2/

      2. Exit ID Assistance Program

Everyone who dies in Switzerland must be identified after their death (to the Swiss authorities). Most people travel with family/ friends. However, if you must travel alone, Exit can step in and identify you after you are gone. The charge for this service is US$1500 (plus minimal travel costs of the Exit representative – eg internal EU flights & 1/2 nights accommodation as required).

      We hope this helps.

Please let us know by return email if you would like to proceed with either program and we can send you the relevant links.

      Kind regards,

      Kay…Exit Team
